解説：これほどに蜻蛉に関係する国があるだろうか。古来、我が国は秋津洲（蜻蛉島）とよんだ時代がある。由来は国の形が蜻蛉の婚姻飛行の形に似ているなど諸説ある。また、武士が甲冑の内側に印伝で蜻蛉の紋様を描いた。蜻蛉は常に前にしか進まず、決して後ろには行かないからである。勝ち虫が蜻蛉の異名である所以である。

Is there any nation so deeply connected to the dragonfly as Japan?
In ancient times, Japan was known as Akitsushima—the Isle of Dragonflies. Various theories explain the origin of the name, one being that the shape of the land resembles dragonflies joined in flight.

Dragonfly motifs were also depicted in inden leatherwork worn inside the armor of samurai warriors. It was believed that dragonflies move only forward and never backward.For this reason, the dragonfly came to be known as the Kachimushi—the "victory insect."
