BLACK ECHO feat.

Black echo is a unit of three artists: dry lacquer artist KUSUDA Naoko, calligrapher SHIRAISHI Setsuhi, and musician Monah.

They express themselves by linking with people, nature, and the ancient past in order to connect their souls to the future.

Just as lacquerware made in the Jomon period was excavated and current people were astonished by its revival spirit..., or just as the calligrapher Wang Xizhi wrote a piece of calligraphy while praying that future generations would be moved by his work again…

However,
all the tangible things in this world are impermanent...
They change and disperse.
No one can live forever and there is no eternity.

That's why
we would like to reconnect the spirit that was handed down from ancient times as an expression of those who live in the present, while being away from attachments and flexible to something changing.

After graduating from Musashino Art University, I went to Italy to study design.

While I had many opportunities to think about Japan's beauty, I realiezed that Japan had Urushi. On returning to Japan after a year, I knocked on Master Nagatoshi Onishi's door and was trained under him for 3 years. The very first time I saw Urushi Sap, I was moved by its beauty and mystery. Now I feel the happiness of working with this natural material.
