解説：むかし、ホタルを捕まえてホタルブクロ花の中に入れ、提灯のようにして、夏に向かう束の間の夜を遊んだそう。そして提灯のことを古来火垂るともよんだらしい。
古語である火垂るは、暗闇に光が空から音もなく静かに舞い降りてくる、その光の軌跡や情緒を表す、言葉。まわりを明るく照らすのではなく、静かに闇を少しだけ押しのける光。

Commentary：

Long ago, people are said to have caught fireflies and placed them inside the blossoms of bellflowers, carrying them like lanterns through the fleeting nights that heralded the arrival of summer.

It is also said that lanterns were once called hotaru—“hanging fire.”
In the classical language, hotaru was a word used to describe a light that silently descends from the darkness above, tracing a delicate path through the night and evoking a quiet sense of wonder.
It is not a light that brightly illuminates its surroundings, but one that gently pushes back the darkness, if only a little.
