秋田の自然公園の程近く、山間に佇む田村一の工房は、
当然ながら冬の間は厚く雪に覆われる。
さながら雪男のようにも見える彼が、ひっそりと人知れず作陶に励む時、
ふと「もう一つ手があったらなあ」と思うことがあると云う。

深閑とした冬山では、物音も雪に吸収されてゆく。 
大いなる自然の摂理の前では、人間は時に無力であるが、
畏敬の念を持って山と対峙する者には、
もしかしたら自然からの使者も尋ねて来るのかも知れない。
陶芸家が求める「見えざる手」は、
案外あちこちに控えているのでは、と想像するのも悪くない。
　
長い冬を超えた山では、春には山菜が勢いよく顔を出す。
夏には深い緑が生い茂り、艶やかな錦秋の彩が去った後に、また冬を迎える。
そんな当たり前のサイクルの中で、田村一の器たちは生み出される。
「見えざる手」の力も借りて。

Near a natural park in the mountains of Akita stands the studio of ceramic artist TAMURA Hajime. As one might expect, it lies buried beneath deep snow throughout the winter.
TAMURA himself, who at times seems almost like a snowman emerging from the landscape, quietly devotes himself to making pottery. And every so often, he finds himself thinking, "If only I had one more hand."
In the profound stillness of the winter mountains, even the faintest sound is absorbed by the snow.
Before the overwhelming forces of nature, we are sometimes powerless. Yet perhaps, for those who face the mountains with reverence, a messenger from nature may quietly pay a visit.
The "invisible hand" sought by the ceramic artist may, after all, be waiting closer than we imagine.
When the long winter finally gives way to spring, wild mountain vegetables push energetically through the earth.
Summer brings lush greenery, and after the brilliant colors of autumn have faded, winter returns once more.
It is within this timeless cycle of the seasons that TAMURA Hajime's vessels come into being—
with a little help from the invisible hand.
